Caleb - Washington, DC

Details: Run from the gingerbread giant

Bob - Rochester, NY

Details: Dough made from scratch. I have been making houses with my girls for 18 years.

Shana - Toronto, ON

Details: My friend and I made our houses at Crooked Ginger - a special night at a local bakery and cafe here in Toronto. During the month of December at Madeleine's you can come in and decorate a gingerbread house - it's great for kids. But on one night she closes the shop and it's an adults party with holiday cocktails, martinis, appies and fun. After three martinis it was pretty hard to decorate the house - hence the title "Crooked Ginger" but we did okay!

Melissa - Arlington, VA

Details: My daughter, Elizabeth, made this gingerbread house last year when she was 4 at our annual gingerbread party at my neighbor Meghan's house. I love it's simplicity and her creativity!

Carmen & Patrick - Alexandria, VA

Details: We're expecting, so our house is a tribute to our first child due early next year.

Susan - Alexandria, VA

Details: This summer, we went to Sweden to visit the Vasa, a ship that sank in 1628. The Vasa was the inspiration for this structure. The inside of the ship is filled with rice crispy treats then covered with strips of gum as planks for the deck. During our visit, we had the opportunity to go "back stage" and see much of the collection that is not on display. We learned about "Helga" the 8th body discovered on the ship. I used bone candy from Halloween to create a skeleton in honor of Helga which is displayed on the deck of the ship. The ship is glued together with Royal Frosting which I colored brown to keep the look of the ship monochromatic. It was a lot of fun to make and quite a challenge. (I have 2 photos. One of the ship being built and one finished. It did have candy sails that I made out of melted sugar but I don't have a picture with those on the ship)

Dillon - Alexandria, VA

Details: Dillon - Age 10 built this structure/building for our annual Gingerbread Party. It is a Greek structure inspired by the Percy Jackson book series, which he is currently reading.
