This Reader Reward is now closed. Congratulations to our winner, Margaret!

You know what they say. "It's the most wonderful time, of the year." In Old Town this is very true as this coming weekend marks the highly anticipated Christmas events celebrated throughout the town by locals and visitors alike. Yes, that's right, it's the Campagna Center's annual Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend, and we can't wait!

In celebration of the occasion, we've got a great giveaway for two tickets to an event that's near and dear to our heart, the Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend Holiday Designer Tour of Homes, but more on that a little later in the post.

The Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend has been celebrated the first weekend in December for the last 42 years, and the 43rd annual event kicks off this coming Friday. Starting with several kid friendly events during the day, the first night is capped with the Taste of Scotland. The Taste of Scotland is a great charity event at the George Washington Masonic Temple where the attendees taste many different types of Scotches having a grand old time. The men don kilts, the ladies their tartans, and the town really kick off the Christmas season by celebrating the night away.

The main event, the Scottish Walk parade follows on Saturday morning, celebrating Alexandria's Scottish heritage with lots of kilts, bagpipes, dogs, and classic cars. This event is one that is celebrated by many in the area, regardless of Scottish ancestry.

One of the other major events for the day is the Holiday Designer Tour of Homes, where several private homes throughout Old Town are opened to the public, allowing onlookers a unique glimpse into a few of the homes that give Old Town its character.

If you remember back to last year, our home was one of the houses on the Christmas Designer Tour of Homes. The level of effort we put into getting our house ready for the tour was staggering, but the overwhelmingly positive response, that fact our home was bursting with beautiful floral arrangements, and the knowledge we were supporting a great cause made it all completely worth it. This year we're not participating by opening our home, but we'll be attending the event to check out this year's tour homes.

But just because we're not opening our home this year doesn't mean we can't give you a glimpse into one of the other homes on tour. This home happens to be that of our blog readers, Cara and James, and their adorable daughter Alexandra.

Cara and James live in an historic home just down the street from us and have done wonderful things with their quaint and stylish home, proving that modest sized historic homes can still boast modern style while meeting the needs of a young family.

Cara has been working tirelessly on an ombre tree theme and corresponding table scape, going as far as to paint ornaments and vases the perfect shade of Tiffany blue. I'm so glad I'm not the only person in town that would go to these lengths to achieve their holiday vision!

It's definitely a place, along with the other homes and locations on the tour, that should be seen in person. That's where today's giveaway comes in. For the second year in a row the Campagna Center has generously donated two tickets for Old Town Home to give away to our wonderful readers. The two tickets are valued at $70.

Please see our complete terms & conditions page for more details.

We hope you're planning on attending this year's Scottish Christmas Walk. We'll be wandering around town all day, so if you see us, be sure to say hello.

AN OLD TOWN CHRISTMAS! I have too many Christmas traditions - one used to be going to the Atlanta Christmas House, but now that I've moved to Alexandria, that tradition is going to have to change! Can't wait to check out the tour of homesAlt smile

AN OLD TOWN CHRISTMAS

Growing up my dad would hide money in our stockings (i.e. In a deck of cards or rolled up in the lid of nail polish) and everyone had so much fun trying to find all the dollars. This will be my second Christmas not going back to Iowa but I'm going to Charleston to see my boyfriends family and can't wait to eat my way through the city!

Sorry - too far away to enter - but curious - is Alex actually Scottish and wearing a kilt in the family plaid?

Ditto this question.

Yep, I'm a wee bit Scottish. Though I'm 1/2 Italian, my mother's side is a mix of Irish, Scottish, and French/German. My Scottish ancestry is actually that of two clans. The kilt I have is the tartan for Clan Macfie (in the muted style). Wendy got it for me for my birthday about five years ago and I love wearing it to events.

We always make a late evening stroll to see the Capital tree and the Norwegian train display in Union station. Would love to do the old town home tour.

AN OLD TOWN CHRISTMAS: An extended family = extended traditions. We seem to add a new one each year. The home tour would be a wonderful addition.

For 25+ years, we have baked and delivered cookies to our friends and neighbors. Hope to continue that here for our first Christmas in Alexandria! The Scottish Christmas Walk and Tour of Homes sounds interesting, especially since I am part Scottish!

We're pretty traditional... Christmas tree goes up the day after Thanksgiving, Sound of Music on Christmas Eve, and a big dinner and present opening at my parents' house with all the siblings & in-laws!

I'd love to see the homes in your hood but will stay close by and probably go to the Petersburg Historic Homes Tour as well as a few city historic homes decorated for the holidays.

There's also the Fan homes tour in Richmond this weekend which is supposed to be a winner every year. As much as I'd definitely enjoy seeing the beautiful homes on Monument Ave. and nearby, what really excites me is an exhibit of late 19th-early 20th century early appliances. That I expect would be worth the price of admission by itself!

I hope you'll be invited by your friends to take more pictures of their home, and post them -- it looks very lovely.

I won last year and my friend and I had a great time! We explored all the houses, shopped and dined in old town. Our feet were tired but we had alot of fun. You home was just lovely! I hope whoever wins this year has a great time too!
