This particular sickness tends to kick in each year in late July and lasts through the month of October. My disease? I'm a Halloweenaholic. And each year, I promise myself that I won't purchase any new decorations for my beloved holiday. Well, in true Halloweenaholic form, I've already broken that promise and it's only mid-September. <sigh>

I realize that having double digits worth of plastic storage tubs filled with Halloween paraphernalia means I have a serious disease. Don't believe me? Here I am with Mel (in our master bedroom pre-reno) in front of the majority of our Halloween decor. Decorating for this holiday usually takes several longs days and late nights, often without food, water, showering or changing from one's pajamas (or at least that's what this picture makes you believe). Yes folks, it doesn't get any sexier than Halloween socks. Me-ow.

You may recall that I've already ordered the invitations for our annual costume party. (Which, by the way, arrived much earlier than the 21 day expected delivery. I guess that makes me the winner in my game of expedited shipping chicken.) While I showed the front of the invitation in that post, I failed to show you the reverse:

I don't know what it is about the raven on the back of the invite, but it has totally inspired me as a theme for this year. I've already purchased three ravens/crows, and am considering using them as exterior decor, in the new vestibule, and/or up the stairs and along our banister.

I've even gone so far as to purchase Martha Stewart's crow cutouts.

I plan on using these to replace the bat cutouts I've used for the last several years on our staircase.

Buying the crows pre-made feels like cheating, since I freehanded the bats and cut them out construction paper. But I'm a little tight on time this year, so the thought of a ready made solution plus a 40% off coupon at Michael's made it too good to pass up.

In addition to the ravens, a few other Halloween items may have snuck into my shopping cart. Nothing major that will take up valuable real estate in my self imposed storage tub limit. Just some candy bags and adorable skull and crossbones ribbon for party favors, as well as a few new designs and sizes of cupcake wrappers.

My Halloween fever is just getting started. Only 42 days until my favorite day -- and holiday -- of the year. Which means there are only 19 days until our unusually early party. Eeks! I'd better get focused on my costume. All these ravens make me have Tippi Hedren on the brain. Hmmm....

Have you been inspired to change your tried and true Halloween decor this year? Or are your current decorations too good to keep in hiding for another year?

I bought the same crows at Michael's yesterday!!! Maybe we should have had a meet-up?? I think I am going to put them on the roof of my front porch, although still figuring out how I'll securely attach them. Here's my house last year (a la Mrs. Limestone) houseography.blogspot.com/2010/10/halloween-spooktacular.html

LOVE the raven ideas! I just had my annual halloween party for this year but am already looking ahead to next year and thinking Ravens and Poe but wondering if I can have enough ideas to do it all in that, which is why I'm browsing pinterest looking for other ideas. Alt smile

By the way, in my world you don't qualify quite yet for a halloweenaholic with only 8 storage tubs of Halloween. I now have halloween strung all over my husband's garage, taking up almost all of his loft attic in that garage and part of my garage. Now looking to buy a shed to use exclusively for halloween decorations. That's how big of a halloweenaholic I am. Alt smile
